Salesforce Functional Consultant
Role purpose, accountabilities, experience, knowledge, and skills
The T&DS Senior Salesforce Functional Consultant acts as a key interface between Business teams, Technology teams, vendors and other stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into robust functional and technical solutions using Salesforce technologies.
The role operates within a complex international and multi-stakeholder environment and requires a high level of autonomy, maturity and stakeholder management.
The Senior Functional Analyst is expected not only to provide strong Salesforce functional expertise, but also to facilitate decision-making, manage conflicting priorities, build trusted relationships across teams and drive solutions from initial business requirements through implementation and transition to operations.
The position requires a strong understanding of Salesforce platforms, application lifecycle management and project delivery, combined with excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
Key responsibilities
• Act as a Senior Salesforce Functional Expert and trusted advisor to Business and Technology stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strong relationships across a complex ecosystem of Business teams, IT teams, Product Owners, project managers, support teams, external vendors and senior stakeholders.
• Understand, challenge, clarify and document business requirements, taking into consideration business priorities, technical constraints, dependencies and T&DS standards.
• Translate complex business requirements into appropriate functional and technical Salesforce solutions.
• Facilitate discussions between stakeholders with different priorities, expectations and levels of technical understanding, and contribute to reaching pragmatic and sustainable decisions.
• Manage complex stakeholder situations, including conflicting requirements, competing priorities, dependencies between teams and sensitive project situations.
• Provide functional leadership throughout the application lifecycle, from requirement definition and solution design through testing, deployment and transition to operations.
• Ensure applications meet technical, functional, security and operational requirements and comply with T&DS standards, Group processes and good practices.
• Provide Level 3 application support and oversee corrective maintenance and application enhancements, including requirement analysis, functional and technical specifications and system configuration.
• Define, coordinate and manage integration and non-regression testing campaigns.
• Support Business teams in the preparation and execution of User Acceptance Testing (UAT), ensuring appropriate business validation before production deployment.
• Lead application releases and deployments, including release preparation, release notes, production implementation and post-production controls.
• Identify risks, dependencies and potential issues early and coordinate the appropriate stakeholders to define mitigation or resolution plans.
• Produce and maintain high-quality application documentation, including functional specifications, design documentation, user guides, test documentation and operational procedures.
• Manage the integration of third-party/vendor activities, challenge proposed solutions when necessary and track and review vendor deliverables.
• Ensure effective handover to Operations and Support teams and contribute to the long-term maintainability and stability of applications.
• Influence and facilitate decision-making within the Salesforce/application domain, providing recommendations based on business value, technical feasibility, risk and operational impact.
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve applications, processes, ways of working and collaboration between Business and Technology teams.
• Provide guidance and support to less experienced Functional Analysts and contribute to strengthening functional analysis practices within the team.
Key Skills
• Approximately 10 years of professional experience in Functional Analysis, Business Analysis, Application Management, CRM or related roles.
• Significant experience working with Salesforce, ideally within large, international or complex organisations.
• Proven experience managing applications and projects involving multiple Business and Technology stakeholders.
• Strong experience operating in complex organisational and relational environments, involving multiple teams, countries, seniority levels and external partners.
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, conflicting stakeholder expectations and cross-functional dependencies.
• Experience working with external vendors and distributed or international teams.
• Experience with application lifecycle management, configuration, testing, release management and production support.
• Good understanding of Agile and other project delivery methodologies.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to build trusted relationships with both Business and Technology teams.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to operate effectively in environments where responsibilities, priorities and expectations may differ between stakeholders.
• Ability to facilitate complex discussions and bring stakeholders towards decisions and common objectives.
• Ability to challenge requirements and proposed solutions constructively while maintaining strong working relationships.
