Your training
For the shunting locomotive driver training, we need safety- and responsibility-conscious employees. After 9 weeks of theoretical training in shunting, you complete a 6-month practical assignment in your region and learn from and together with routine and experienced colleagues. Following that, you receive a further 26-week training up to becoming a locomotive driver. With your successful completion of training and after intensive regional induction, you independently take on tasks in shunting, thereby contributing to an optimal shunting process and contributing to safe and punctual train traffic throughout Austria.

Tasks that inspire you:
You couple wagons, separate couplings, thereby forming trains, and brake and secure the wagons.
You set points and also operate other technical and electronic equipment.
You carry out shunting movements with the traction unit.
You take on the shunting management and monitoring during shunting in stations and in operational points on the open line and allocate the activities to the shunters in your team.
You exchange operationally necessary information with your team colleagues.
During the entire shunting process, you ensure compliance with safety regulations in order to guarantee safe and punctual operations.
Expectations you fulfil:
You have completed vocational or school education (apprenticeship, technical school, Matura, etc.).
You have a good general physical condition.
Personally, you convince through a high awareness of safety and responsibility.
You enjoy working in a team and in shift work.
You are flexible and keep an overview even in stressful situations.
Your German skills are good enough that you can communicate sufficiently with your colleagues by radio.
You have already completed presence/civilian service or are exempt.

For the function "shunter in training", a minimum salary of € 38,351.88 gross/year is envisaged. After completed training and when exercising the function "shunting locomotive driver", the salary amounts to at least € 48,430.90 gross/year. Assignment-dependent additional payments of an average of € 850 gross/month are possible.

After fully completed training, it is possible to reduce the employment level to part-time by agreement.
For the duration of our mobility programme, depending on the travel time, either an additional mobility bonus of € 4,000 to max. € 14,000 gross per year is paid out or you receive between 8 and 28 additional days off per year. Furthermore, a service room is provided.
With a 12-hour shift model, you come to work only 3-4 times in your working week (Mon-Sun) and enjoy more free time due to less frequent travel to work.
